As time passes by, geofencing is getting cooler and cooler and more and more businesses are using geofencing and enjoying its benefits. The location based technology or advertising strategy is popular is because it gives the users a real time data and helps them understand the mind set of their customers and use the same to build their reputation in the business.
So what exactly the geo fencing is? Geo-fencing is a location-based technology that allows businesses to set-up virtual zones around a given location for the purpose of targeting marketing efforts at customers who have opted-in to receive correspondences from the business. The geofencing technology however, works by detecting a person (who has opted/subscribed) to a service whenever he/she walks into/out of a particular zone that has a virtual boundary enabling software to trigger a response when a mobile device enters or leaves a particular area and sending them a promotional message in real-time. There are plenty of rules and regulations behind the geofencing marketing and plenty others are being written as of now. However, the most important rule here is no one can use the location tracking of an individual or a customer without his/her permission and he/she can opt out of the service anytime they want. Ways of using geofencing There are three ways of using geofencing. The standard and the oldest way of using geo fencing are via text messages. And then there are two more ways – one is by integrating geo-fencing into a dedicated mobile shopping app for your store. This approach can work well, especially if you can update an existing shopping app to make use of geo-fencing. The other one is with the help of third party companies. How do they retain customers? Geo fencing isn’t only about telling your customer about your services and products and various other offers. They are more likely to retain your old customers. How? Well, think about a customer who visited your shop a month ago. Now, he hasn’t been visiting your shop since then and he almost forgot about your shop. However, if you happen to use geo fencing in a particular location and if he visits the location once, your shop’s various offers and services will be sent to his phone and he would be reminded of your shop and your business. Well of course, that will happen only if he has subscribed to the same.
